The exhibition Dark Lightening showcases the latest works of visual artists Viktor Frešo, Marek Kvetan and Martin Lukáč. Light becomes the essential means of expression, matter forming individual objects in space, which unifies the principle of playful composition, elements of wit and irony and the seemingly simple composition of shapes, colors and meanings of pop-punk aesthetics.

Viktor Frešo offers his latest reflection on light objects in the Untitled now part I series. It represents a variation of figural thinking over sculpture during the current several-month self-portrait and decadent pandemic period. He combines the principles of intuitive, Dadaist collage object with geometry and abstraction, from which very concrete figural objects are created, which are full of lightness, expressive gesture, strong color and humor.

Marek Kvetan shows a more subtle form of object compositions, where the punk aesthetics of cables, neons and dead flies deliberately disrupt the conceptual still lives. He naturally connects personal statements with cold technological procedures, thus creating new narratives and meanings. In his work, there is often a theme of nature, everyday life, DIY, which is further detailed in meaning but also materially processed and completed by new sculptural techniques and the virtual aspect of the future.

Martin Lukáč, a representative of the young generation of painters, has been returning to various portraits by Leonardo for a long time. It refers not only to the iconic Leonardo Da Vinci but also to the Ninja Turtle from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, a lover of pizza and martial arts. The profile portrait refers to decorative paintings of functionalism, especially the Bauhaus and the profiles of Oskar Schlemmer. The expressive depiction of the symbol of pop culture of the 90s is today elevated to the imaginary light pedestal of the home decor, or the street object of the light advertisement of the big city.

The exhibition was created as part of the White Night 2020 festival in cooperation with the Košice Self-Governing region.
