The ESG library, called the Seminar of Professional Literature, has had an important place in the structure of the gallery since its establishment in the 1950s. After 1973, it became a professional library called the Study of Art Literature and Magazines at ESG.
In 2012, due to reconstruction and personnel changes, the library was moved to unsuitable premises, which led to its practical malfunction. Since 2015, the functioning of the library has been gradually renewed. In 2017, more than 12,000 library units were moved to the new library premises at the gallery's headquarters on Hlavná Street. Under the new name Library of the East Slovak Gallery (ESG), it was registered in the List of Libraries of the Slovak Republic under number 3460.
In the years 2018-2019, the gallery worked intensively on the revitalization of the library, its furniture and infrastructure. The goal was a modern library that meets current professional and user standards. Following the finalization of the revitalization work, the grand opening of the library took place on 26 February 2020. The ESG library is thus open to the public again.
