A selection of student works from the Master’s programme of the Department of Photography at FAMU in Prague is based on a joint examination of the issues of the Anthropocene. The installation freely follows a parallel exhibition in the main building of the East Slovak Gallery on 27 Hlavná Street named Quantum Fields.
As part of their research, the students were given the opportunity to visit the sites most affected by the Chernobyl nuclear power plant explosion and to consider the Anthropocene in relation to the nuclear age. The long-lasting consequences of contamination, the scale of which is often described as unthinkable, are representative of the Anthropocene as described by Eva Horn - a disaster without a specific event, a slow process uncontainable within the scale of our daily lives.
