Fernando Fallik was born in Košice in 1924. At the age of 4, he emigrated with his parents to Argentina. He lives and works in Buenos Aires, where he has his own museum. There, at the beginning of his career, he adopted the stage name GYULA KOSICE and thus declared his roots and his birthplace. Kosice is a versatile artist - sculptor, painter, poet, theorist and visionary of a new engineering-plastic aesthetics. He was the first in the world to use water and neon as part of his works of art. He is one of the pioneers of geometric abstraction, concretism and kinetics not only in Latin America, but in a global context.
Gyula Kosice was not only an active visual artist of the 20th century, but also an intellectual, theorist and visionary. Especially in Paris, he met a wide range of intellectuals. He met personalities such as Milan Dobeš, Jean Arp, Victor Vasarely, Le Corbusier, Jean-Paul Sartre, Tristan Tzara or Umberto Eco.
The curatorial concept of the exhibition represents the basic line of the development of Gyul Kosice's work from the first geometric works (MADÍ movement) from the 1940s, through the concept of the Hydrospace City (manifesto, 1971) to the current forms of work. Works for the exhibition in the East Slovak Gallery called HYDROKINETIK are borrowed from the prestigious Georges Pompidou Center in Paris, from museums and galleries in Grenoble, Villeurbanne and also from private collectors. The exhibition presents a collection of 27 sculptural realizations and objects of a chamber and narrative character. This is the first solo exhibition of this author in Central Europe, which is brought to the Slovak audience by the Bratislava City Gallery as part of the successful Henkel Slovakia Slovakia project. The East Slovak Gallery has been a participating partner of this project for the second year in a row.
Gyula Kosice mainly develops her own concept of dynamic, mobile art with the involvement of the phenomenon of light (lumino sculpture) or water (hydrokineticism). He prefers non-traditional materials: aluminum, polyester, glass tubes, plexiglass, electric light, neons and especially the presence and flow of water. He was invited to the world's most important shows and exhibitions at the Sao Paulo Biennale, the Venice Biennale, Documenta Kassel, the Montevideo Biennial and EXPO Zaragóza. In 2013, he was included in the permanent exhibition of Multiple Modernities at the Center Pompidou in Paris. Gyula Kosice is an honorary citizen of the city of Buenos Aires and the city of Košice.
