May 2020 in ESG

Thanks to current mitigation measures, the East Slovak Gallery will be reopened on May 20, 2020. We are currently working intensively on the upcoming exhibitions and the reconstruction of the interior of the building on Alžbetina 22. We are not only offering visitors what they could see in our country before closing. The opening of the gallery will be accompanied by the opening of the new exhibition Ivan Šafranko - Krištof Kintera. All roads.

7140 + / New acquisitions from the VSG collection 2015 - 2020
curators: Katarína Nádaská, Miroslav Kleban
The exhibition presents the latest acquisitions since 2015, a diverse complex from 19th century art to the present, with an emphasis on the mission of the gallery as a memorial and collection institution that preserves, presents, buys and professionally enhances the nation's cultural heritage. The collection of the East Slovak Gallery focuses on three central areas - art of the 19th century, the interwar period, especially the avant-garde overlaps of Košice modernism and post-war art. The acquisition strategy of the gallery focuses on supplementing the author's holdings of the most important artists in the collection, as well as on supplementing individual thematic areas. The purchased works were financially supported by the Art Support Fund and the Košice Self-Governing Region. The collection of new additions also includes works that were donated or transferred to the collection.
